Ismael Mijares introduces 2012-13 budget;
Parents will need to fill out cafeteria forms

The 2012-2013 EPISD Budget was unveiled at a special meeting of the Board of Trustees on Monday at the District Service Center.
Present were the EPISD Board of trustees, Executive Director for Business and Finance Ismael Mijares, Federal Programs Director Rolando Salinas, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Samuel Mijares, Executive Director for Human Resources Jesus Costilla, DAEP Director Mario Escobar and CC Winn Principal Jesús Diaz Wever.
According to Mr. Mijares, the school district’s Financial Objective for the 2012-13 Budget is to continue to maintain a high level of Financial Stability through prudent financial planning and practices.
"Due to the Existing 2011-12 Projected M&O Budget Deficit of $1,530,090, the Cost Savings Measures implemented in the first year of the 2011-12 Cost Savings Plan will continue to be implemented in the upcoming 2012-13 Budget," stated the financial leader of the EPISD.

Triumphant Victory for Pete Gallego and Tom Schmerber
On Tuesday, local voters took to the voting booths and cast their votes for several crucial local and state positions.
After a long campaign Tom Schmerber was able to oust Tom Herrera by nearly 1000 votes.
The final results were in favor of Schmerber, who brought in 3,732 votes to Herrera's 2,891 votes. Since the early vote Schmerber had shown a clear advantage. Herrera shall remain in office until December 31. Tomás Herrera has done a great job as Sheriff, he brought many resources and programs of security for the County.
The ICT was the backdrop for the 2012 Eagle Pass Job Fair coordinated by the Texas Workforce Commi sion.
Approximately 1000 prospective employees descended on the ICT in search of employment as the event was termed by all involved as a resounding success as companies from across South Texas from 26 different businesses and employers came in and took resumés and applications for positions they so desired to fill ranging from oil field hands to truck drivers and clerks to office assistants, cooks, nurses and care givers.
As soon as doors opened, a very large line of job seekers filed into the main conference room of the ICT.
Mayor Ramsey English- Cantú said that they had people asking about the fair since 6:00 A.M. that mor ing from people who simply want to work in order to provide for their families.
Mayor Cantú said that the fair will assist in dropping the unemployment rate significantly in our area.
Ronnie Rivera of the Texas Workforce Commission said that it all went smoothly and estimates that approximately 500 jobs and even went on to mention that one company offered as many as 300 jobs alone. According to Rivera, over 1400 prospective employees were able to meet with these companies, the largest fair of its kind in this area.
"In going around and talking with employers, they were satisfied with the number of job seekers who came out," stated Rivera, "They were also satisfied with the quality of the prospective employees, but they really liked the turnout."

Fort Riley was renamed Fort Clark, and in 1856, the settlement of Las Moras changed its name to Brackett, after Oscar B. Brackett, who established the supply village. The two – Brackett and Fort Clark, have been two halves of the same coin since then.
Today. Brackettville and Fort Clark Springs are still thriving and drawing travelers to the area. Though no longer a military post, the fort is a favored destination for tourists and those seeking an active retirement lifestyle. Take a dip in the 3rd largest (and possibly coldest) natural swimming pool in Texas, if you need to cool off between activities!

The office of The Texas Department of Public safety in Del Rio has informed The News Gram that one of the victims of the fatal accident which occurred Monday morning has been positively identified. The wreck took place on Highway 90 between Brackettville and Uvalde.
An agent from DPS commented that one of the victims was positively identified as Joe Aviles of Uvalde and was driving a privately owned van of a company called Unifirst which is dedicated to the distribution of work clothing for companies.
The other victim of a Ford Expedition has yet to be identified due to the fact that the vehicle exploded and the body was completely incinerated.
The collision was head-on and the accident occurred in Kinney County.
The Department of Public Safety maintains that the accident remains under investigation.
As of Tuesday, seven of 22 elected officials have voluntarily accepted the 10% salary decrease.
Those elected officials who have done so, signed a sheet forwarded to them by the County Attorney while others may have verbally committed to doing so.
Maverick County authorities have informed the general public that now is the time to accept this challenge as it will alleviate the deficit and at the same time, show their constituents that they too are in favor of putting their part into attempting to get the County out of this deficit. It does not look like all elected officials will be willing to do so according to sources.
The next pay period for County employees is Friday, July 27th.
In a related note, the Office of the County Treasurer is presently receiving notices of termination from the different departments in an unprecedented reduction in workforce which is presently underway.
In the coming days, it is expected that 35 County employees will be laid off, some of which have been in the employment of the County for years. These measures have been taken in order to reduce the negative figures in the County's coffers. Maverick County has approximately 350 employees of which 10% will be seeking employment elsewhere in the very near future.
