Una clase de manualidades con la Sra. Teresa Gonzalez se esta llevado acabo cada martes y jueves en el Seco Mines Community Center a las 9:00 del mañana y todas las mujeres del pueblo estan cordialmente invitadas par participar.

Cuando las camaras  de  El Gram llegaron al centro comunitario, se estaban elaborando unos arreglos florales que eventualmente seran corages que se regalaran para el Día de las Madres en mayo.

La Cámara de Comercio dio a conocer los ganadores en las distintas categorías en Friendship Day Parade de este año , que fue uno de los más largos de los últimos tiempos con un total de 133 entradas.

La elegancia y el esplendor del Desfile de la Amistad 2014 nos recordó a los días en que Chevys '57 , Bobby Sox y 'Hot pants' cuando los jovenes de Eagle Pass se paseaban por la Main para ir por una hamburguesa y un batido cuando las tiendas Newberry, S. & H. Kress, Canon Shoes , Riskind, Baker Jewlers entre muchos otros negocios locales prosperaban en la zona del centro.

Local golfer wins International Challenge

As dignitaries arrived to the Plaza Monumental in our neighboring city of Piedras Negras for one the final events during La Semana de la Amistad, many were at the balcony of the forty-foot high precipice which would be the launching pad for what seemed to be an ominous looking golf shot.

For one, the golfers would be that high off the ground and approximately 188 yards from the podium was the target, a series of circles, a bull's eye if you will which had been painted on the green grass of Shelby Park where festival goers had enjoyed a carnival and concert series during Las Noches Mexicanas.

In an order filed on March 27 at 4:31 PM of the same day, a ruling has come down from the 261st District Court in reference to the permit granted by the Texas Railroad Commission for Renew/Revision and Expansion of Permit No. 42A, Eagle Pass Mine, Maverick County.

Presiding Judge Darlene Byrne has ruled "It is therefore ordered, adjudged and decreed that the Railroad Commission's Final Order dated January 29, 2013 which approved the application by Dos Republicas Coal Partnership is in all things affirmed," thus granting Dos Republicas permission to mine.

Congratulations to Eagle Pass Air Force Junior ROTC on their outstanding performance during their unit evaluation on March 26th, 2014. The cadets, who were evaluated by Colonel Wolfgesch, scored the highest possible rating an inspection that occurs once every 3 years. Their instructors would like to give special thanks to Cadet Colonel Jacob Escamilla, the group commander, and his command staff. Cadet Colonel Escamilla also did a fantastic job leading his team in drill and ceremony.

The paving of Old Mines Road, the road that would eventually connect our community to that of our sister city of Laredo, was deemed the most beneficial for Maverick County to pursue in terms of the economic impact it can have.

Commissioner's Court agreed that this is the road which will best qualify Maverick County to compete for grants to fund the paving of what would be a new, faster route between Eagle Pass and Laredo.

Genetically modified foods have been on the market since 1994 and there is limited research on their effect on human health.

 Former Deputy Constable Jose Blanco was killed in Corpus Christi apparently from a random act of violence as he waited for transportation back to Eagle Pass according to sources close to the family.

 Blanco was in Corpus Christi after having been admitted to a clinic for treatment in the Crescent City before leaving the facility unbeknownst to family members in Eagle Pass.

 Blanco allegedly then walked with his personal belongings to a nearby bus station where he was told there were no buses running to Eagle Pass and was subsequently assaulted by an unknown group of individuals who only took his wallet and his cellular telephone.

 His family was notified that he was in  the hospital, but by the time they arrived, he was being sustained on life-support. Deputy Blanco died from his injuries on March 17th.

 According to a police report issued by the Corpus Christi Police Department, on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at about 9:48 p.m., police were called to 600 N. Water St. in reference to a nature unknown injury call.  

 Police contacted Jose Blanco, age 41, who reported to police that he had been robbed in the downtown area.  Blanco was in need of medical attention for possible head trauma and was transported to Christus-Spohn Memorial Hospital for treatment.  Blanco’s condition continued to deteriorate and he died from his injuries on Monday, March 17, 2014.

 Detectives have learned that Jose Blanco may have been assaulted sometime during the following time period in the downtown area:  From 11:00 AM Saturday, March 15 to about 9:48 PM on Sunday, March 16. 

 Jose Blanco was visiting Corpus Christi at the time of his death.  He was an Eagle Pass resident and was employed as a Constable in Maverick County.           

 The Corpus Christi Police Department/Homicide Unit is requesting anyone with information about the Robbery or anyone who had contact with Mr. Blanco to call Crime Stoppers at 361-888-8477 or  Det. R.L. Garcia at (361) 886-2850.

 Blanco was lain to rest in his hometown of Eagle Pass on Monday March 24th after a service was held at Sacred Heart Church and was given full honors prior to his departure from Corpus Christi as a member of law enforcement.
